📖Biography
Gianna Beretta Molla was an Italian pediatrician, wife, and mother who joyfully embraced both her medical career and family life. During her fourth pregnancy, she was diagnosed with a fibroma of the uterus. Despite knowing the risk to her own life, she insisted the doctors save her baby, telling them: 'If you must decide between me and the child, do not hesitate: choose the child.' She gave birth to a healthy daughter, Gianna Emanuela, but died of septic peritonitis one week later on April 28, 1962. She was beatified by John Paul II in 1994 with her husband and children present, and canonized in 2004 — one of the few modern married women to be declared a saint.
