📖Biography

Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, an Albanian-born nun, felt a 'call within a call' to leave her teaching position and serve the poorest of the poor in Calcutta's slums. In 1950, she founded the Missionaries of Charity, which grew to over 4,500 sisters serving in 133 countries. She opened homes for the dying, orphanages, and AIDS hospices. She received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. After her death, her private letters revealed decades of spiritual darkness — feeling abandoned by God — yet she persevered in faith and service. This hidden suffering made her holiness even more remarkable. She was canonized by Pope Francis in 2016.
