๐Ÿ“–Biography

St. Valentine was a 3rd-century Roman priest (or possibly bishop of Terni) who was martyred during the persecution under Emperor Claudius II. According to tradition, Claudius banned marriages for young soldiers, believing unmarried men made better warriors. Valentine defied the emperor by performing secret marriages for Christian couples. When discovered, he was imprisoned. Legend holds he healed his jailer's blind daughter and sent her a note signed 'from your Valentine.' He was executed on February 14, around 269 AD. While the romantic associations developed later, the core truth remains: Valentine died defending the sanctity of Christian marriage and love.
