📖Biography
Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone, known as Francis of Assisi, was born into a wealthy merchant family in Assisi, Italy. After a carefree youth and a stint as a soldier, he experienced a dramatic conversion during an illness. He renounced his family's wealth, embraced radical poverty, and dedicated his life to imitating Christ. Francis founded the Order of Friars Minor (Franciscans), received the stigmata, and composed the beloved Canticle of the Sun. His deep love for all creation and joyful spirit made him one of the most venerated saints in Catholic history. Pope Francis chose his name in honor of this great saint.
