๐Ÿ“–Biography

Chiara Offreduccio was born to a noble family in Assisi. Inspired by the preaching of St. Francis, she secretly fled her home on Palm Sunday at age 18 to join Francis and his brothers. She founded the Order of Poor Ladies (now Poor Clares), the first religious order for women to be written by a woman. Clare insisted on the 'Privilege of Poverty' โ€” the right to own absolutely nothing. When Saracen soldiers attacked Assisi, she held up the monstrance with the Blessed Sacrament at the convent window and the invaders fled. This event, along with a vision she had of a Christmas Mass she was too ill to attend, led to her patronage of television. She was canonized just two years after her death.
