πŸ“–Biography

Born Fernando Martins de BulhΓ΅es in Lisbon, Portugal, Anthony first joined the Augustinians before transferring to the Franciscans, inspired by the martyrdom of five Franciscan friars in Morocco. Though initially assigned to a quiet hermitage, his extraordinary preaching talent was discovered by accident when he was asked to fill in at an ordination. St. Francis himself authorized Anthony to teach theology. His sermons drew enormous crowds, and he was known as the 'Hammer of Heretics' for his ability to defend the faith. He is invoked as the patron of lost things because of a story in which a novice who had stolen Anthony's psalter was compelled to return it. He died at only 36 and was canonized within a year.

πŸ™Prayer to St. Anthony of Padua

St. Anthony, perfect imitator of Jesus, who received from God the special power of restoring lost things, grant that I may find what has been lost. At least restore to me peace and tranquility of mind, the loss of which has afflicted me even more than my material loss. To this favor, I ask another of you: that I may always remain in possession of the true good that is God. Let me rather lose all things than lose God, my supreme good. Amen.
