The Spiritual Works of Mercy are seven charitable actions directed toward the spiritual needs of others. While the Corporal Works address physical needs, the Spiritual Works care for the soul. The seven Spiritual Works of Mercy are: (1) Instruct the ignorant — teaching the faith through catechesis, sharing knowledge, mentoring. (2) Counsel the doubtful — offering guidance to those struggling with faith or life decisions. (3) Admonish sinners — charitably correcting those who are in error, out of genuine concern for their soul (fraternal correction). (4) Bear wrongs patiently — enduring suffering and injustice with patience, following Christ's example. (5) Forgive offenses willingly — releasing grudges and extending mercy, as God forgives us. (6) Comfort the afflicted — offering emotional and spiritual support to those who suffer grief, depression, or hardship. (7) Pray for the living and the dead — interceding for others, including souls in purgatory. These works complement the Corporal Works and together form a comprehensive framework for Christian charity. Pope Francis emphasized both sets of works during the Jubilee Year of Mercy (2015-2016).
