The Corporal Works of Mercy are seven charitable actions directed toward meeting the physical needs of others. They are drawn from Jesus' teaching in Matthew 25:31-46, where He identifies Himself with those in need: 'Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.' The seven Corporal Works of Mercy are: (1) Feed the hungry — supporting food banks, cooking for the needy, or volunteering at soup kitchens. (2) Give drink to the thirsty — providing clean water and supporting water access initiatives. (3) Clothe the naked — donating clothing, supporting shelters. (4) Shelter the homeless — supporting housing initiatives, welcoming refugees, hospitality. (5) Visit the sick — bringing comfort, companionship, and practical help to the ill. (6) Visit the imprisoned — writing letters, prison ministry, advocating for justice reform. (7) Bury the dead — attending funerals, supporting grieving families, praying for the deceased. These works are not optional for Catholics; they are essential expressions of Christian love and will be the basis of judgment at the final reckoning.
