๐Ÿ“–Biography

Monica was born to a Christian family in Thagaste, North Africa. She was married to Patricius, a pagan with a violent temper. Through her patience and prayers, she eventually converted both her husband and her mother-in-law. Her greatest sorrow was her brilliant son Augustine, who lived a dissolute life and followed the Manichean heresy. For nearly 20 years, Monica prayed, wept, and followed Augustine across the Mediterranean. A bishop consoled her: 'It is not possible that the son of so many tears should perish.' Her prayers were answered when Augustine converted and was baptized by St. Ambrose in Milan in 387. She died shortly after, having fulfilled her life's purpose. Her story remains a witness to what a mother's love and persistent prayer can accomplish.

๐Ÿ™Prayer to St. Monica

Dear St. Monica, troubled wife and mother, many sorrows pierced your heart during your lifetime. Yet you never despaired or lost faith. With unwavering confidence you prayed daily for the conversion of your beloved husband and your prodigal son, Augustine. Grant me that same fortitude, patience, and trust in the Lord. Intercede for me, dear St. Monica, that God may favorably hear my plea for the conversion of my loved ones and for my special intention. Amen.
