Glory Be (Doxology)

The Glory Be, also called the Gloria Patri or Minor Doxology, is a brief prayer of praise to the Holy Trinity. Despite its brevity, it encapsulates the core of Catholic belief in the triune God and is one of the most frequently recited prayers in Catholic worship and devotion.

โœPrayer Text

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

โฐWhen to Pray

The Glory Be is prayed after each decade of the Rosary, at the end of each psalm in the Liturgy of the Hours, and whenever offering praise to the Holy Trinity. It is a perfect prayer of thanksgiving and adoration.

๐Ÿ“–How to Pray

Pray the Glory Be as a moment of pure praise, pausing to acknowledge each Person of the Trinity. Use it as a transition between Rosary decades or as a spontaneous prayer of gratitude throughout the day.

๐Ÿ“šHistory & Background

This ancient doxology dates to the 2nd century and was used to affirm Trinitarian faith against early heresies like Arianism. The Council of Nicaea (325 AD) reinforced Trinitarian language, and this prayer became a standard part of the Divine Office and Rosary.
