๐Summary & Overview
When the Assyrian army besieges the Israelite town of Bethulia, the people are ready to surrender. Judith, a devout widow, rebukes their lack of faith, enters the enemy camp, gains Holofernes' trust, and beheads him while he sleeps. The Assyrians flee in panic. Judith's canticle of praise mirrors Mary's Magnificat, and the Church sees her as a type of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
