Saints

What is a patron saint?

💬Answer

A patron saint is a saint who is regarded as the heavenly advocate for a particular group, place, activity, or cause. Patron saints are chosen because of some connection to the group — often from their earthly life or the circumstances of their death. For example: St. Joseph is the patron of workers (he was a carpenter), St. Cecilia is the patron of musicians (she 'sang in her heart to the Lord'), and St. Jude is the patron of desperate cases (people turned to him only when no other saint could help). You can ask your patron saint for intercession in matters related to their patronage. Many Catholics are named after saints at Baptism or choose a Confirmation saint as a spiritual model and protector.
